Stories of Color, a diverse, multicultural book catalog for homeschoolers

It’s time to turn the page on homogeneous, status quo book lists

Stories of Color’s concept came from my brilliant wife, Nicole. As a decade-long Charlotte Mason homeschooler, she was dissatisfied with the predominantly white, euro-centric book lists and resources so commonplace among homeschooling communities. As we sought out to provide our own children with a rich, holistic view of history, Nicole found that it was nearly impossible to find all of the diverse, multicultural stories she wanted to introduce to our children, bringing new ideas, experiences, and perspectives to life for them.

She had the itch, and I came up with some ways to go about building the thing with her. Our story is still unfolding, but I’ve already written on the site about how we went about building thing. It’s been incredibly fun—and rewarding—to build this with her. It’s her thing, and I’m just there as technical support on nights and weekends when she needs me, but it’s been fun.

I’ve learned a lot

Primarily, I’ve learned how to maximize the use of Airtable and automate a whole bunch of stuff—and I mean a lot! It’s a pretty smooth operation, except for the social media posting which Nicole does and a monthly post for books of the month. Again, feel free to learn more about how we built and manage it. Or, just give it a look when you get the chance. Everyone could use more living books from diverse perspectives in their lives.

TL;DR 😜
