Uncommon love and marriage

There is no pursuit higher or greater than Love itself, imho.

Loving radically is my why, and this is one way I do that

I struck gold when I married Nicole in 2005. I could not be more blessed by the wildly uncommon marriage I have had the privilege to enjoy with her. In fact, we’ll be the first to admit that we’re lucky. As much as I would like to argue that we were really wise in who we chose to marry, there are so many things that are unknown when you get married—especially when you date each other for only 6 weeks.

Graciously, we have enjoyed a wonderful, blessed marriage, and I can’t wait to see all the other ways it plays out in our lives.

Even still, though, my wife is not the sole recipient of my love and I don’t want people to think that this theme is only reserved for my love of her. I love Jesus, our kids, my friends, my colleagues, my city, and my world. With that in mind, I try to communicate as openly as possible about pursuing Love and how that plays out in all my relationships.

One of the most uncommon aspects of my life, in particular, is the organic church community with whom I abide in and express this Love. It is a costly pursuit, but it is well worth it. We have encountered a type of Love within this community that can only be described as divine—and for that, too, I am grateful.

Since Love is the very reason I exist in the first place, I figure: why not pursue that further and share it with others? This is the reason that uncommon Love and marriage remains one of my life’s themes and I desire to communicate it so much.

In service of others

Knowing that my life is not about me, I aim for this theme of my work to help the various people I serve:

  • Find inspiration in the type of love that’s possible among families both common and uncommon

  • Gain practical ideas about how to pursue and express Love

  • See an earthly picture of how Jesus loves the church

  • Tangibly experience more of the Father’s astounding love for them as a direct result of the Son’s life and the Spirit’s help

  • Participate in the divine family of God as children of Abba and brothers and sisters to one another and Jesus

  • And more
