Not about me
I don’t live for myself. I live to love God and love others, full stop.
I’ve discovered life’s purpose, and it’s anything but my own. Here’s the short version on how I arrived at the fact that this life is most definitely not about me.
Above all, life is about relationships
Rather than start by answering “Why,” I started with the “Who” questions. Who is God? Who am I? Who are my people?
First, my life’s purpose stems from who I resolutely know God is. For me, that’s incarnate Love, indwelling Power, and Christ as All. Out of this tiny sliver I know about my immense Creator, my design as a son, shepherd (a.k.a. community builder), and starter has been made very clear. Rooted in these three aspects of my identity, I consider it a joy to serve curious believers, Phoenix entrepreneurs, and purpose seekers. It all begins with Who.
I’m on a lifelong pursuit of Love
Assured that God is Love, ultimately, He’s my chief pursuit. But I try to pursue love in a more general sense, too, because in my book, love always succeeds. In fact, Jesus summarized loving God and loving others as the greatest commandments He wants His followers to walk out. I’m trying to do that very thing in partnership with Him. Of course, I’m still learning how to pursue Love better, but at least I have His Spirit as my Compass and Counselor. Love first.
I try to do only what I discern Jesus doing
One of my go-to Psalms reads, "Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it.” As somebody who prefers avoiding wasted effort, I try to heed this advice and do nothing except what I discern God is doing. I’m not always successful, but I’ve found this is a much easier way to live than trying to achieve things on my own. Jesus modeled this principle best, and I’m simply trying to follow His lead. How we do life matters.
My work is focused on nine different themes
In doing what Jesus is doing, my work can seem a bit…eclectic. That's okay, though, I've learned to embrace it. While I maintain a good deal of focus through a handful of themes that remain constant, different seasons naturally bring about different work and my projects reflect that diversity. I get bored doing the same thing for too long, anyway, so it’s a perfect setup for me.
Of course, some of this may very well change
I'm still learning, never arriving. In true entrepreneurial fashion, I don’t mind pivoting. What you're reading here is simply the latest iteration of how I know to best describe my life’s purpose. The only thing I’m 100% certain of at this point is one thing: Christ is All. Everything else may change, but He will not.
So here’s the real question…
How can I serve you?
As you can see, this isn't about me. My life is dedicated to serving Jesus and others—including you. However it is I can help, I’d love to connect with you. Don’t be a stranger.
